KIONI Pictures was founded by brothers David and Samuel Mukungubila, Peter Mutombo and Nathanaël Bukase as a film production company, following a pilgrimage to Kisaâla, a developing city in Tanganyika Province, in 2025. The name is inspired by the legendary folkloric hills of Kisaâla, historically known to locals as Kioni wamu kuta ng’ombe, or simply Kioni. The small business is now exclusively run by Samuel, with all dealings conducted under a single entity. Plans to expand the company were subsequently made, with merchandise sales expected to be introduced in December 2026.
